I’m not a “New Year, New Me” kind of chick simply because,
1. I like me and it’s exhausting to try to become a new me every 365 days.
2. I strive to evolve throughout the year so that process simply continues.
3. If I say I’m going to (fill in the blank) this year and then don’t follow through, the self-loathing that ensues is not worth the time it took to fail.
Most of the time a new year just feels like the next year for me. But something is different about 2019. I wonder if you sense it too…
I don’t think God needs the stroke of midnight on January 1st to do a new thing, but I don’t see any reason to not take this opportunity to offer Him the faith with which to work if He so chooses. Hebrews 11:1 tells me,
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (KJV)
Faith is the substance. It’s the stuff-- the material. It’s the clay God uses to mold the miracle. Faith is the watercolor He applies to paint the promise. My faith is the evidence of what my eyes have not yet seen. It is the confirmation before the demonstration. It’s the testament prior to the testimony. Faith declares truth before there are facts to prove it. Faith, although quite invisible, takes shape and forms the answer to my deepest desire. It allows me to hear these words:
“Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole...” (Mark 5:34, KJV)
The woman in Mark 5 desired healing and wholeness. What do you desire? A fresh fire? Renewed joy? Relentless love? Inconceivable peace? New-found confidence? A clear vision for your life? You’ve got to give God some material to work with.
New: just beginning and regarded as better than what went before
Next: occurring directly in time after the present or most recent one
If your faith meets God’s power in 2019, it will be a new year in your life and not just the next year of your life. This year can be an action-packed adventure or another plot development chapter in your story. Don’t let fate decide. Let your faith decide. Personally? I'm ready for action!
